Dean Burrows

Coach Burrows begins the 2008-2009 basketball season in a new role.   He joins the varsity team in a full-time capacity as an assistant coach for Coach Herting after guiding the JV team for the past four seasons as well as being in charge of scouting ahead during the state play-offs.  Over this time period, Coach Burrows amassed a 63-24 record while guiding the junior varsity team.  In his first year (04-05), the junior varsity won a school record 22 games while suffering only one setback in the second game of the year.  The  21 game win streak is also a school record.  That season was followed by a 15-4 campaign in 05-06 in which the boys finished the season with a 12 game win streak.  In the 06-07 season, the Vikings JV team ended up 20-3 and started the season with a 19 game win streak.  The 07-08 season finished the year with a 6-16 final record.  They featured a young squad that fought through adversity and finished strong while showing a lot of heart.

Coach Burrows is a native of Wilmington, Delaware and is a graduate of Salesianum School.   He went on to graduate from the University of Delaware.  After graduating from college, Burrows returned to coach with his mentor, Salesianum coach Mike Gallagher.  He served as an assistant from 1997-2000.  For two of those seasons, Burrows was an assistant coach for Father Chris Beretta with the freshmen team.  He also served as an assistant for the baseball program for two years as Salesianum.    Coach Burrows and his wife, Stephanie have one daughter, Isabella (18 months) and live in Fort Myers

Herting on Burrows:
"Without a doubt, Dean is not only a big reason for our success in the regular season, but especially in the play-offs.  He has done an oustanding job with the JV program getting kids ready for the varsity.  He has also done a remarkable job scouting our opponents.  He is well organized, focused, and meticulous.  He is going to be a great head coach in the near future.  One thing I know for sure is that Dean's teams will be well organized from top to bottom.  If there was a sub-varsity coach who worked harder in the past 4 years, I never saw him!"
