This was stolen from Gene Smithson who incorporated this with his Wichita State teams of the 1980's (one of which reached #1 in the AP and UPI polls). He was looking for a way to get his team to play harder and realized that they needed an identity. They hung their hat on the fact that they were going to play as hard as they could every second of every game. M.T.X.E has been adopted by hundreds of teams across the country in all sports. I have spoken at length with Gene about this and he is very proud of every team that has adopted his mantra. Gene lives in Ocala, FL.
